FIDDLINGSCOOL AT HATTON CASTLE, SCOTLAND
Hatton Castle is a genuine Scottish castle, with a genuine Scottish history! Built in 1575, it stands on lands which were originally given to Sir William Olifard by Robert the Bruce. It was the home of the Masters of Oliphant (the sons of the clan chiefs) and at least one bishop until it was de-roofed after the Jacobite uprising. Restored in the 20th century, it remains a private home to this day, and we are very lucky indeed to be allowed to make it our home for one week every year!
Although the restoration was faithful in many ways to the original construction, allowance has been made for underfloor heating and proper bathrooms. There are a total of 9 bedrooms, some of which are private and the rest dormitory-style. There are also 3 full bathrooms with WC and another WC in the laundry, Lessons take place in the excellent acoustics of the Great Hall, and meals are taken in the old kitchen.
Hatton Castle is ideally situated for exploration. Glamis, Dunkeld, Dundee, Perth, St Andrews, Falkland, Aberdeen, Kirriemuir, Dunfermline and even Loch Tay are all within easy reach. You are welcome to join our trips around the area in your free time. We even drop in on local sessions for some tunes with the locals.
